Demons (1985)

Movie patrons are trapped in a theater in which the events occurring on screen start to happen in real life. The “film within the film” tells the story of a group of kids messing around an old cemetery where legendary prophet Nostradamus is buried. They find his tomb, open it and discover a book of prophecies and a weird mask. The book warns of demons that will invade the earth and whom will “make cathedrals of your cemeteries and tombs of your cities” or something like that. Sure enough one of the dip-shits puts on the mask, cuts himself with it, and turns into a demonic beastie, just like a movie patron in real life did with a mask in the lobby. Confused? The chick in real life starts to transform and soon we have demons running shit crazy all over the frigging place. Lots of gaping plot holes, crappy dialogue, and bad acting abound, but we all know we expect that stuff anyway right? The positives are the violently gruesome f/x, which include demons popping out eyeballs, ripping throats, etc. Lots of weird shit happens like a helicopter that crashes through the roof for no reason and a scene in which a movie patron rides around the lobby on a motorbike, cutting demon heads off with a long ass sword!? There are some cool set designs as well, probably due to Argento I would reckon. Ok fun if you want to see what would happen if demon zombies tried to take over our world. One last thing, the foxy red head in the lobby is the little girl from Argento’s classic “Deep Red”, the little kid at the end is from Lucio Fulci’s “House by the Cemetery”, and the masked weirdo handing out the free tickets at the beginning is Michele Soavi, a fine horror director in his own right.
